What is Titanium Used For?

So you’ve probably heard of the fantastic metal know as Titanium and all of it’s great properties.  But you’re probably asking yourself, “What is Titanium used for anyway?”.  Well since this website is called Titanium Watch Reviews, I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that you are aware that it’s used in watches.  But you will probably be amazed at all the other things that Titanium is used for.

Titanium has the highest strength to weight ratio out of all the know metals.  It’s also resistant to corrosion.  These two properties make it very useful in many different applications.

Besides making high quality watches out of Titanium, many jewelers make wedding bands too.  Since Titanium is so strong, couples like to get wedding bands made out it to symbolize the strength of their bond.  Men’s bracelets have become very popular too.  Since Titanium doesn’t tarnish jewelry made with it is virtually maintenance free and 100% hypoallergenic as well.  Now who wouldn’t want jewelry that you don’t have to clean or worry about?

No one uses more Titanium that the aerospace industry.  Once again, because it’s so strong and lightweight it’s a great metal to build aircraft from.  Because it can withstand extreme temperatures, Titanium can be found in the Space Shuttle and the International Space Station.

Since Titanium is chemically inert, compatible with human tissue and resistant to corrosion by human body fluids, it’s also used in many medical implants.   Titanium hip and knee replacements are quite common.

The next time you’re staring into the glass display case at a Titanium watch, just remember how lucky you would be to own it.  Why that Titanium could have been sent into space or wound up being used for someone’s new hip.
